Growing and Changing Study

Three activities—“Timeline,” “Walk Around the Sun,” and “Height and Weight Landmarks”—that are ongoing throughout the year, with individual children doing them at different times.

Class Pet Study

A study of the characteristics and needs of a familiar animal, with opportunities to extend learning by making connections with other animals and living things.

Collections from Nature Study

A study that focuses on a classroom collection of natural objects, such as shells, rocks, leaves, seeds, feathers, nests, or bones. Offers opportunities to collect, sort, classify, identify, describe, record, research, and experiment while exploring the properties, functions, origins, and diversity of natural objects.

Constructions Study

A study of how things are built, exploring the science involved in design and architecture, construction, and simple tool usage and capitalizing on a significant interest of many young children—building.

Dirt, Sand, and Water Study

A study that explores concepts such as the properties of substances, change, and states of matter (liquids and solids) using some of children’s most familiar and favorite materials—dirt, sand, and water.

My Body Study

A study of the human body and how it works, focusing on growth and development, the five senses, simple systems, and healthy habits.
